Brendan started his hockey profession at Markham District High School. Following that, he performed the Markham Waxers Minor Midget group, in which he had been captain and scored 55 goals and 148 points in 86 games. After becoming a successful participant in Ontario, he was chosen second overall in the OHL Priority Draft from the Belleville Bulls of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). He also made his major junior introduction from the 2010–11 OHL year in a 7–4 win over the Peterborough Petes. At the start of his next season, Gaunce has been appointed an alternate captain for the Bulls. On November 26, 2013, Brendan Gaunce has been exchanged in the Belleville Bulls into the Erie Otters.
