Robert Towne is an American screenwriter, producer, director, and performer. He had been a part of their New Hollywood tide of filmmaking. He’s best-known because of his Academy Award first screenplay for Roman Polanski’s Chinatown (1974), that is widely considered among the best screenplays ever written. In addition, he composed its sequel The Two Jakes at 1990 and composed the Hal Ashby comedy-drama the Last Detail (1973), and Shampoo (1975), in addition to the initial two Mission: Impossible movies. From the 1970’s, Robert Towne was known in Hollywood as a gifted screenwriter, who obtained his first Oscar nomination in 1974 to the movie The Last Detail (1973) and also a BAFTA Film Award. The next year, he won not just a Best Screenplay Oscar for Chinatown(1974) but also a Golden Globe and BAFTA Film Award. He obtained two Oscar nominations, for Shampoo (1975) and Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes(1984). Towne made his feature directing debut with private Greatest (1982), which he wrote followed closely by Tequila Sunrise (1988), starring Mel Gibson and Michelle Pfeiffer. He co-wrote and led his next movie, Without Limits (1998), that had been a box office success. To Ask the Dust (2006) starring Farrell and Salma Hayek, Towne accommodated John Fante’s Depression-era book, Besides helming the creation.
